Camping with the Smiths

This weekend, we went camping with some of our closest friends.  There were seven families - 14 adults and 17 children...all under 5 years old.  Needless to say, it was a challenge but oh so fun at the same time!  The weather was perfect during the day but very cold at night (high 40's).  We were able to stay pretty warm under mounds of sleeping bags.  Heidi slept surprisingly well in her pack and play, bundled up in fleece jammies along with a fleece sleeper.  It's nice that she sleeps best with her face covered by her blanket, so I never worried about her head getting cold.  Tobin had a blast exploring with his friends.  They were using their imaginations and hunting for grass monsters, dinosaurs, and a "snake man."  There was never a dull moment for him!  His favorite part was roasting marshmallows and eating smores...he takes after his mother, after all!  It was a perfect first camping trip as a family!!  Here's some pictures of our adventure:

Thumbs up for camping.  This is Tobin's very best buddy, Noah
Playing in the gravel by the water spout...endless fun for the boys

Roasting hot dogs for dinner
Mmmmm...Smores
Heidi and I in the morning
Tobin, Noah, and Noah's brother, Finn
All the older kids
Happy campers!

Emily! Such a priceless memory! I just LOVE all those little kiddos piled together on the picnic table/bench! And I'm so glad you posted - we've been contemplating taking a camping trip and were wondering about how it would work with a toddler. I guess now we have to give it a go!

Oh how I wish I could have been a little bird in the tree watching all the fun. I'm glad you and Matt are so adventurous. Those memories will last a long time for you. And what a great way to have undivided time (more or less) with all your friends. I know there were lots of good times around the campfire. Hope Tobin saved a s'more for MiMi????

Emily,
Your blog is such a source of joy for me. I look forward to every posting! This is a great way to keep a family "scrapbook". You do such a great job with it. I have friends who don't even know you who read your blog on a regular basis. Hugs and kisses from Oma
