Tobin-isms Part 2

Here are a couple more fun comments from Tobin:

- Jelly Bellys = "Tummy Yummys"

- Yesterday I told him I had a headache and he told me "It's okay, mommy, Veggie Tales will make you feel better."

Summer Tease

The three day weekend was a tease for Matt and I. We had so much fun as a family and are anxious for summer to get here. Have I mentioned how much I love that Matt's a teacher and has over two months off every year?!? What a job!!!

This weekend was busy. On Saturday, we went to a fabric store and got fabric to have our couch reupholstered. They were having a 50% off sale and I had a 10% off coupon. So basically, we're getting a new couch for $150!!! I don't usually broadcast our purchases or financial info but this was such a good deal and a "new" couch is a big deal for us, so I had to share our exciting news!

That afternoon, we went to a birthday party for one of Tobin's friends, Noah. He turned three and for his birthday got a crab sandbox. I did his birthday cake and made the cake look like his gift:

Saturday eventing, we went to Penny and Clyde's to spend the night. They had their grandson, Noah, who is just a few months older than Tobin and we like to get them together to play as often as we can. They had a great time together:

Tobin has four friends named Noah. After playing with one of them, he often comes to me and says "Mommy, I have four Noahs!" as if he has claim on all of them.

Monday, we spent the day at home doing yard work and hanging out with friends. It was a great weekend. Only 9 more days of school/work!!

Tobin-isms

I'm sure every mother thinks that whatever comes out of her child's mouth is the most adorable thing ever and I'm no exception. I've started a journal to record all of Tobin's mannerisms, phrases, thoughts, events, and details that I don't ever want to forget. His baby book just doesn't cover it for me when it comes to "first night in a big boy bed" or "thoughts about Jesus." Here are some of my favorite phrases from Tobin in recent weeks:

- Statue of Liberty = "Statue of Letter B"

- "We love the sunshine and bugs because God made the sunshine and bugs."

- "Mommy, I see the sunshine. That means it's time to play, not sleep."

- As he carries his stuffed animals around the house he says "I have all my friends!"

- My favorite: "When I fall down, Jesus helps me up."

Day in the Country

Yesterday, Penny and Clyde invited us to join them at their church's 130th anniversary picnic/celebration. The church is a very small country church surrounded beautiful farmland. It's always a nice treat to go there and play outside in the fresh air! We enjoyed some of Clyde's always delicious BBQ, petting a four-day old longhorn calf and her big momma, watching the maypole get tangled up, and spending time with family. Here are some pictures from our day:

My First Sewing Project

I've learned to sew! It's something I've been itching to do for a long time, and I finally got my hands on a sewing machine. I probably should have started with something a little simpler but I couldn't resist this bag pattern. There's flaws all over it but at least it's functional and has cute fabric! I think I'll try pillows for our "new" couch next. And yes, it's laying on my new shag rug in our living room (thanks Matt!!)...cool, huh?

Signs of Summer

Texas heat is starting to kick in and so begins the signs of summer. Tobin got his summer hair cut this week...a short little buzz cut. We're able to accomplish this with some M&Ms and the reassurance that "it doesn't hurt". This year, I've decided it's time for me to learn how to use the clippers so that I'm not dependant on Matt to do all the hair cutting at the Smith house. He looks like a completely different boy but at least he stays cool!

Also this week, we had playgroup at a nearby park and I decided to try out our new-to-us bike trailer. Tobin and Emerson seemed to enjoy it and it was a gas efficient way to enjoy the outdoors.
Here's a picture that just makes me smile. Tobin has been enjoying some dress-up fun lately...
Finally, I was able to do some cakes for a friend of ours graduation party. The main cake was amaretto with vanilla buttercream. I also did another cake for them that was chocolate with mocha buttercream. Luke, the graduate, is a duck hunter so here's the cake that came to be:

Crocs and Cake

Today I got my mother's day gift early (we're not very good at surprises in the Smith house). Tobin got me some Crocs that match his!! He's on his second pair and I hope Crocs will always be available because: 1.)It's the only pair of shoes he likes to wear, 2.)They can be washed in the dishwasher, 3.)He doesn't get stinky feet with them, and 4.)I think they're adorable on kids. I hope I look half as cute as he does but it doesn't matter, they are so comfy and perfect for the summer. Here's my mother's day gift:Also, I made a pink baby shower cake this week. It was a white cake with strawberry cream cheese filling. I wasn't 100% happy with the cake design, but I heard it tasted great so that's what really matters, right??
