Toddler Guitar Hero

So, I'm new at the video uploading thing and our camera only takes 10 seconds at a time. Still...I couldn't pass up on Tobin's version of Guitar Hero:

Super Tobin

Tobin loves to dress up and also loves to pretend he's a super hero. Last weekend, I made him a hero's cape to help join these two loves. Here's the result:Showing off his muscles. He gets a serious look on his face and says in a loud voice: "I'm super Tobin, with the power to help!" How's that for creative mothering in getting my toddler to clean up toys or do toddlerish chores around the house?!? I must say I'm a little proud of myself on that one! :)

Here's the back of the cape as he's running/flying down the hall.

We are having a great time having Matt officially off for the summer. Throughout June he was busy teaching his Upward Bound class at UNT plus getting involved with his volleyball coaching. This is the first week we haven't had anything scheduled and it's been wonderful! On Friday, we're going to get the moped we've been planning on getting. Matt will ride it to and from work next year in an effort to save gas money, do a little to help the environment, and to have fun while we're at it! This is the one we want:

Cute, huh? I think it's awesome and will be so fun to tootle around town in!

The Great Outdoors

Last week we went to Bass Pro Shops and Cabellas to get things that Matt needed for a weekend fishing trip with his buddies. I've never been to either store so I felt like a tourist taking pictures on a vacation. It was a fun day for all of us!
We ended up getting a stuffed fish for Tobin's "camping" bedroom. The first thing Matt does when we get home is attack the dogs with the fish. I just think this picture is funny because it looks like the dogs are about to be eaten by a gigantic live fish.

Go Rangers!

Yesterday we celebrated Matt's birthday with a Rangers game. It was Tobin's first game and a day I know we'll remember for a long, long time! We got there early so we could eat lunch before the game started at 1:00. We got our supersize nachos and Tobin had a game day cheeseburger. Yum! As we were sitting and eating our lunch in the area outside the stadium, Matt looked up and saw one of his childhood heroes...Nolan Ryan. He was walking along the corridor up above where we were sitting. Of course, we were staring like starcrazed loonies but then Nolan smiled at us and waved!!! It was priceless and very cool to Matt.

After we ate, we found our seats. It turned out they were in the Fox Box of the stadium where Jim Knox, a Fox sports news guy, comes to interview people in the stands. Just before the game started, Jim came over to our seats and started asking about Tobin. Then, at the beginning of the second inning, he came up to us with his microphone and told us we're going to be on TV! Here's how the little interview went:

-Jim: Hi folks, what's this little guys name?
-Matt: This is Tobin. It's his first Rangers game.
-Jim: And how old is Tobin?
-Matt: He's two years old.
-Jim: Well, thanks for coming out today. We're glad you're here!
It was very quick but very exciting! Another highlight of the day!! After we started roasting in the sun around the 7th inning, we decided it was about time to head home. I think Tobin would have stayed the whole game playing with his free Chatter Bats and eating ice cream, but it was on the verge of unbearably and dangerously hot. It was a perfect day filled with yummy food, fun memories, and of course, a great time as a family.

For Matt's birthday, I got him and Tobin matching hats. I also made Tobin a little Ranger's t-shirt to wear for the game. It didn't take long for the nacho cheese and chocolate ice cream to find the shirt!

Old Man Smith

To my most amazing husband and best friend,

Happy 27th Birthday!! I know you didn't celebrate birthdays growing up but I hope you always know that I'm more than grateful for the day your were born! You are an incredible role model for Tobin, a wonderful and serving husband to me, and a gifted leader for our family. Your unconditional love, faith, wisdom, sense of humor, selflessness, joy, patience, and goodness inspires me and many others that truly know you and your heart. I thank God every day for you and the gift you are to our family. I love you!!
"Praise the Lord! How blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever." Psalm 112:1-3

"Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory." Colossians 3:2-4

It's Official...

It's summer!!! Here's what we've been doing during our first week of summer:

Playing at the Green Reunion. Doesn't Tobin look like a big kid in that last picture? He doesn't look like a toddler anymore...he's really starting to grow up!
Swimming and jumping like a little frog.
Learning to play board games. We've been having some serious game nights with the Windles so we're getting Tobin ready to join in the fun. His favorite is Hungry, Hungry Hippos in which he says in a deep, serious, froggy voice "The hippos are hungry!"
