Denton Arts Festival

We had a fantastic weekend. On Friday, we got our bikes set up so we can start riding as a family. Matt had to work Saturday morning, teaching a TAKS test taking lecture, so Tobin and I rode our bike to the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival. He loves the bike and we have some great conversations while riding. It's become one of my new favorite things! Here are some pictures of the weekend...

Tobin had so much fun wearing his Daddy's boot outside. The best part was that it was really good at stomping on the ants and bugs.

Jumping in the bounce house at the festival. I had to drag him out of there. I think he would have been perfectly happy jumping all day long. It was the best $1 entertainment of the day!!

There was a magician giving away some amazing balloon animals...monkeys, fishing poles, alien hats, etc. All Tobin wanted was a "Dilly" so we walked away with your basic wiener dog balloon animal.

Here's Tobin on the back of my bike. He's very proud of his helmet because he helped pick it out. It has bugs all over it complete with googly eyes. I truly LOVE riding with him. On the way to the festival, he was telling me about the moon and how it goes to it's mommy during the day so we can play. He's realized that when the sun is up, it's time to play. I adore the stage he's at because we have the most priceless conversations together. I love hearing how his mind is working and processing things!

Tobin's Mind

Here's a little story for you...

Yesterday I took Tobin to the library for our bi-weekly visit to get more books. We were looking at the cookbook section and Tobin was getting restless to get to the children's section. All of a sudden he stops, looks at my face, and points saying "awww, Mommy, you have an owie" while pointing out an obvious zit on my cheek. I tell him that it's just a pimple and that it doesn't hurt.

Five minutes later, after a quiet spell from Tobin, he says in his loud, toddler voice that seems to carry for miles "Mommy, you have a nipple??" I was so embarrassed and shocked that he uttered such a taboo word that I start explaining that we only use those kinds of words in private with one another, it's not an appropriate word in public (just like his favorite "potty" words).

We get home from the library and Tobin starts to tell Matt about our trip to the library and tells him that "Mommy has a nipple" while pointing at my face. Then it clicks that in his little, sweet mind, he confused "pimple" with another part of human anatomy. Wow...I love being a parent!

Our weekend

We had a great weekend...hope you did, too! On Friday night, Matt and I had a date night. We went to a new restaurant that neither of us have ever tried - Fuzzy's Taco Shop - just off the Denton square. Yum!! I'm hoping to go back very soon.

Saturday, we ran lots of errands and went to a surprise birthday party for Clay and Rev Rozell. Way fun, Rozell family!! Tobin had a blast playing soccer, learning to throw a Frisbee, and searching for pill bugs in the grass. Then a friend of ours showed him how to do "Up Downs"...like the football players do at a practice. I wish we had a video camera because Tobin was loving every second of it. We might just have a football player on our hands if he ever gets above 5 foot 2. We'll just have to wait and see!

Sunday, we woke up and drove to Penny and Clyde's house to celebrate the engagement of Logan and Adam!! I was tremendously honored because Logan asked me to be her Matron of Honor and Tobin will be a ring bearer. I can't wait for next summer, Logan, not to mention all of the fun planning! Love you!!!

Now we're bracing ourselves for another week...only 6 more weeks until summer vacation!

Happy Birthday, Jen!! We had so much fun at your party last night...thanks for including us in your celebration. I'm so happy we've all become such great friends and we look forward to lots more celebrations with you and Brad!!

I wanted to do all of our "Happy Birthdays" in one shot since who knows when I'll get on the blog again! I hope everyone has a fantastic, beautiful weathered, fun weekend! I know we will!!

P.S. I know some of you are wanting to see the cake I got to make for Jen's birthday party. It was lots of fun to do and gave me more practice (which I need) with my cake decorating obsession. Here it is:

It was a white cake with dark chocolate raspberry filling. Yum!!

Lion King

Tobin loves to put Emerson's bow on and pretend that he's a lion. The other day, he was playing with her bow then put on his Burger King hat and said "I look gooooood." Here's my little "Lion King"...

The next day he puts this on his head and pretended that he was a pirate (yes...he was reading his book at the same time!)...

Stomach bug, take two

Yes, the same stomach bug we had a month ago has hit our home again. So far it has hit Emerson, then Tobin. We're hoping and praying it won't go much farther than that. Last time, every one we seemed to know had it at one point. Yuck!

Other than that, we're doing good. I had a great time with my college girlfriends last weekend when our friend, Chelsi, got married in Austin. Tobin and Matt had a boy weekend and set up a fish tank in Tobin's room.
